Attendance Expectations

Students are expected to attend school every day that school is in session and to arrive on time. Daily attendance is taken each morning at the start of the school day and is recorded in the school’s official attendance records.

  • Students are expected to attend school every day and arrive on time.
  • School begins promptly at the scheduled start time, at 8:30 a.m. Students arriving after the start of the school day will be marked tardy.
  • Parents or guardians must notify the school as soon as possible if their child will be absent.

Daily Sign-In and Sign-Out

Parents or guardians are required to sign their child in each morning at drop-off and sign their child out each afternoon at pickup, with their signature, on the sign-in sheet located at the front desk. This daily sign-in/sign-out sheet is required every school day and is maintained by the school throughout the school year as part of the school’s official attendance records.

Reporting Attendance

To keep attendance records accurate, all attendance-related matters must be reported by email to records@yka1.com. A parent or guardian must email the records department by 10:00 a.m. on the day of an absence. If the school is not notified, the absence will be recorded as unexcused.

Excused Absences

The following absences are considered excused when the school is notified and, where applicable, documentation is provided within three (3) school days of the student’s return:

  • Illness or injury of the student
  • Medical, dental, or therapy appointments
  • Death or serious illness in the immediate family
  • Observance of a religious holiday
  • Court appearances or other legal obligations
  • Other family circumstances approved in advance by the school administration

Unexcused absences

Absences that are not reported or do not meet the school’s excused absence criteria will be recorded as unexcused.

Tardiness and early dismissal

Frequent tardiness or early dismissals disrupt a student’s learning and should be avoided. Repeated occurrences may require a conference with the parent or guardian.

Make-up work

Students are responsible for completing classwork and assignments missed during an absence. Teachers will provide make-up work upon the student’s return, and students will be given a reasonable amount of time to complete it.

Late Pick-Up Policy

Students must be picked up promptly at their scheduled dismissal time of 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m., depending on their program. A 15-minute grace period is provided after dismissal.

After the grace period

The student is placed in the school’s aftercare program for supervision, and the daily aftercare fee of $25.00 is charged.

After 6:00 p.m.

Aftercare ends promptly at 6:00 p.m. A late pick-up fee of $25.00, plus $2.00 per minute, is charged until the child is picked up.

Parents or authorized pick-up persons are expected to notify the school if they anticipate being late. Repeated late pick-ups may result in additional administrative action and may affect continued enrollment at Young Kidz Academy.

Excessive Absences: Follow-Up Procedures

The school monitors attendance regularly and will take the following steps when absences become a concern:

  1. 3 days in a rowAfter three (3) consecutive days of absence without notification, the school will contact the parent or guardian.
  2. 5 unexcused in a semesterAfter five (5) unexcused absences in a semester, the school will contact the family to discuss the pattern of absence.
  3. 10 unexcused in a school yearAfter ten (10) unexcused absences in a school year, the family will be required to meet with the Director/Principal to develop an attendance improvement plan.

Young Kidz Academy reserves the right to review excessive absences, tardiness, or early dismissals and to meet with parents to develop an attendance improvement plan when necessary.

Scholarship Students

Step Up For Students scholarship recipients

Students receiving a Step Up For Students scholarship are expected to comply with the school’s attendance requirements. Parents are responsible for ensuring their child attends school regularly and for completing all required quarterly scholarship authorizations and acknowledgments through the Step Up For Students portal. Failure to maintain regular attendance or complete required scholarship documentation may affect the student’s scholarship eligibility in accordance with Step Up For Students requirements.

Unique Abilities scholarship students

Students participating through the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities are expected to follow the same attendance policy. When appropriate, reasonable accommodations may be made based on the student’s documented educational needs and in collaboration with the parent or guardian.
